Francesco Fienga
Francesco Fienga was born in Pompei in 1969. He studied at the Liceo Artistico, and later pursued painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. In 1997, he moved to Genoa, where he began his teaching career. He currently lives and works between Genoa and Hannover, Germany. After an initial period experimenting with painting and engraving, he dedicated himself to sculpture, focusing on the relationship between art and society and developing a concept of sculpture that is closely connected to the place and environment from which it originates. Therefore, he creates sculptures that establish a profound relationship with the spaces they inhabit. From the beginning, the artist chose a language characterized by essential geometric forms and the use of simple materials such as iron, satin-finished and mirrored steel, wax, plaster, marble, and pigments. These minimal structures, in wood, steel, wax, and marble, are brought to life through color, interacting with the spaces they occupy. These forms are seemingly simple: behind the essential geometries and monochromatic choices, one can discern clusters of rough material that transform into light, solid and kinetic poetry, with a great emotional impact. His technique is an impeccable meeting of sculpture and painting: the surface is first molded and defined, and subsequently, the material is applied to it. The sculptural nature of Fienga’s works is not merely achieved through a different use of elements but is also embodied in the symbiotic relationship with the space. His works overflow, mock formal conventions, and relinquish their integrity to seek a complete integration with the exhibition context. Moreover, they explore the physical being and the concept of existence and identity of man, with strong anthropological connotations.

Francesco Fienga nasce a Pompei nel 1969. Studia al Liceo Artistico, in seguito pittura all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Nel 1997 si trasferisce a Genova dove intraprende l’attività di insegnamento, attualmente vive e lavora tra Genova ed Hannover in Germania. Dopo un primo periodo in cui sperimenta la pittura e l’incisione, si dedica alla scultura, concentrandosi sul rapporto tra arte e società e sviluppando l’idea di una scultura che si pone in stretta relazione con il luogo, con l’ambiente da cui è prodotta e nel quale è fruita: elabora quindi sculture che si pongono in profonda relazione con gli spazi nei quali vengono collocate. L’artista sceglie fin da principio un linguaggio caratterizzato da forme – geometria essenziale e dall’uso di materiali semplici come il ferro, acciaio satinato e a specchio, cera, gesso marmo e pigmenti. Le strutture minimali, in legno, acciaio cera e marmo, si animano mediante il colore, interagendo con lo spazio in cui si collocano. Sono forme semplici solo in apparenza: dietro le geometrie essenziali e le scelte monocromatiche, si intuiscono grumi di materia ruvida che diventa luce, poesia solida e cinetica, dal grande impatto emozionale. La tecnica è un incontro impeccabile tra scultura e pittura: prima viene plasmata e definita la superficie, in seguito, su questa si applica la materia. La natura scultorea delle opere di Fienga non passa solo attraverso un uso diverso degli elementi, ma si sostanzia anche nella relazione simbiotica con lo spazio. Le sue opere strabordano, irridono le convenzioni formali e rinunciano alla loro integrità per cercare una totale compenetrazione con il contesto espositivo. Inoltre, indagano l’essere fisico e il concetto di esistenza ed identità dell’uomo, con forti connotazioni antropologiche.
Ogni forma per me è carica del mondo che si porta dietro, forma che io cerco di ridurre all’essenza, perché è così che si può aprire al massimo di senso.
